I got bored this morning (after a hard crash from 2 red bulls during work) and decided to just look around to see if there were any good iPad substitutes. I wanted something as pretty much an ebook reader, but with a little more.  Sure, I could play a 2 player game of Smallworld on an iPad, but for 499-649 starting, its not worth it.

However I did come across something that made me cry tears of joy, then suffer the agony of loss minutes later. Microsoft Courier.  Just watch the video links.  It was intended for mostly business/designer use. But if it was going to be able to run Flash…  And it was able to read and make things into pdfs.

This would have been great for DMs EVERYWHERE.  ”Lets make a journal for this adventure. Now lets write out the synopsis of the plot. Ok. Switching to some graph paper.  Drawing the dungeon.  Circle the first room.  Write some flavor text. Bring up the browser and go to DDI Compendium.  Drag over the creatures stat block to the room area.  Once dungeon is made, publish journal so other DMs can look at it and use it as well…around the fucking world.”

Sure, with the right software on a laptop or netbook you could do the same thing.  But I could see the ease as a guy who likes to write and dm many games how this would have been something I had to have.  To bad Microsoft had to cancel the project.

If God didn’t want us to kill monsters, than he should not have made them out of XP.

Yeah I saw that a couple months ago too, didn't even think about the cool D&D application of it.

This holiday season you will begin to see lots of tablets coming to market, most of them will be running Android. They should be at a lot better price than the iPad. I'm definitely interested in them.

There’s a feat for that…
