As some of you already know, Chuck has said that he is looking to end the Heroic Tier of his Rejects campaign by the end of the year. So starting next year, to let Chuck get some DMing mojo back, I am going to start running DnD during the old Rejects slot until he is ready to return.
The campaign will be set in my own setting, but that doesn't mean I have everything set in stone. I am always one for a player being as much of a part as the dm in creating the world that the game is set it. It helps promote evolvement in the land. Players have more at stake when they are trying to defend something they created against an army of undead half-orc illithads. So have fun with character creation and background. If you studied the art of combat in a monastery on a mountain side temple, then you did. I will be able to give you more info about the setting once I have an idea about the characters you are looking to run. You will be playing a group of adventures coming back together after a few years. You have gone through the heroic tier together already.
Character Creation
This will be a Paragon Tier campaign. I wanted everyone to try some new powers out and play around with paragon powers. Standard creation process and everyone will start at 13th level. You get appropriate loot for your circle of training so you will get the standard 3 magic items of your pick: (1) at lvl+1, (1) at =lvl, and (1) at lvl-1. You then get appropriate money for your lvl that you can spend on more loot. You can choose any race as long as it was in a players handbook, setting handbook, or in dungeon magazine. Using the Character Builder will help greatly.
Backgrounds
This is the part that I enjoy. Whenever I do run games, the player backgrounds really matter to me. In Spycraft, I have made a player have to step out of game and calm himself over something I did that used things from his history and he loved it. So have fun with this. Since you are helping to create the world, you can have some fun thinking up brilliant ideas. There are going to be 3 background stories needed for this game:
1. You characters main background. This is the “what did he/she do before adventuring”?
2. The party background. When you guys were together what did your group do? Kill undead? Stop a tribal war between gnolls? This is where everyone of you can get together and create what your party is about and how they made a name for themselves before going their separate ways.
3. What has your character been doing since you split up? Its been about 3-4 years since you adventured together.
Go ahead and post your characters in this thread once you got something worked up. It doesn't have to be final, its just so I have an idea of what if running for.
Thanks
