Since people have voiced an interest, I'm going to start laying down the foundations for a setting and storyline for a Mutants and Masterminds campaign.  Perhaps with some actual descriptive text, a few more people will become interested as well, so here's a very basic outline for what the game would be like setting wise.  I'm pulling from a couple of different sources for this, as well as throwing in my own flavor, so you may recognize some of it, you may not.  Post below if this sounds interesting to you, and you'd like to play.

The world is no longer what it once was… the Earth's population was decimated only a few hundred years ago by a group called The Crimson Six. The Crimson Six, a group of six extremely powerful fallen heroes, decimated most of Earths population in a twisted mission of what they called “purification.” They were finally defeated, but too late for most of the world, entire continents being destroyed, and the total of Earths population numbering only at about nine hundred million. Technology is scarce in some areas, and abundant in others, however there is no large industry. The remainder of what does exist is created by those that survived who understood the creation of such devices. The Internet and similar forms of communication have been destroyed completely. Telephones are worthless ruins of the past, and the only true technology based form of communications that remains is that of a short ranged nature, limited in range by only around a half of a mile. Even true electricity is extremely rare in most portions of the world.

In a world torn by the frequently resulting wars, the only way in which to keep the peace inevitably came about:  Hero's became the ruling class.  Each country is led by a group of elite heroes which protect its citizens, and hires themselves out to perform special tasks.  Gone are the days in which heroes freely offered their services.  Though they still provide for the poor as best they can, their overall responsibility to the people leaves them bound to charge for their services, the one great staple of each nations economy.  Still, even with these powerful warriors leading the world, dark powers thrive in the shadows within each nation.  Heroes that have fallen to the darkness of self service, and the lust for power.

Each nation is led by one person, the most powerful of their heroes.  The rest of the heroes are then ranked by relative power and ability, each rank holding its own responsibilities.  The countries themselves rely almost exclusively upon the income generated by the services that the heroes charge for to keep their economies going. Gone are the days of huge nations. Though each country claims control over a fairly decent sized piece of land, their full influence is usually only felt consistently in or near the capital. Wilds such as the world has never seen before now grow in the portions of the planet that are not directly occupied by humans, and grant homes to huge and vicious animals, and the hidden lairs of fallen heroes.

Now enter our heroes, the lowest on the totem pole of mighty heroes, defenders of their nations. Just recently having joined the ranks of their nations nobility, their relatively low power and their minor ranks do not concern them nearly as much as the tasks and journey that lie before them. With success comes the safety of the people, a long and successful life… but with failure…
