The gun jammed for the second time that night.  If it hadn't been for Layla and her quick wit, we wouldn't even be alive.  We never should have trusted those good for nothing angelic half-breed monsters.

“You should never have followed me beyond the veil.” I half-heartedly admonished the two spectral guardians lying dead at our feet.

As Layla uncloaked, I bent down and removed the rusted railroad spikes protruding from the dead beasts' heads. Even the damned could be put down with a well-placed shot, but then again they just come to the same end with a soft-spoken exorcism ritual. Overkill was Layla's way of making sure I knew who was really in charge.

“Why do you insist on continuously doing things the hard way?”

Layla just laughed and flipped her hair out of her eyes.

“You know me better than that.”

I gazed at the setting suns as our shadows crept toward the never ending abyss of Hell's Citadel and I couldn't help but wonder about our young son being held ransom within.  Those bastard's eyes will curse the day they
