Haans Haffinkeffler was born the ninth of nine children to Lars and Olgred Haffinkeffler, in a village in Norway. From hearty stock that could trace their lineage back to Norse and Viking Raiders, the family lived a tough but happy lifestyle on their modest farm by the sea.

Haans constantly felt the need to prove himself, growing up the youngest, and for most of his life, the smallest in a family of relative giants. From a young age, he became obsessed with training his body, trying with all his might to stand out among his brothers and earn his father's pride, who was a legendary man amongst the countryside.

By the age of 19, Haan's dedication to his training had paid off in his being crowned the youngest ever World's Strongest Man. Yet, his drive to improve only deepened. He was determined to become the strongest man (without powers) in all of history. At 25, Haans had broken or created every possible record for a feat of strength that existed or could exist.

At 26, a government official from the island nation of Solace contacted him, with some interesting proposals. He flew to Solace, and agreed to undergo some tests and training that would change his life forever.

He would gain the alter-ego of The Keeper.

DESCRIPTION: Solace had always been a city of heroes and villains, dating back to the histories of its first native peoples. Over time, as the city and her population grew, so did the numbers of heroes and villains. For a time, Solace followed the examples set by countries like the United States and Britain, and maintained the status-quo of outlawing vigilante heroes. However, this policy enabled the villains to run amok, nearly destroying the government in the 1970s. In 1971, Solace passed the Benevolent Vigilante Act, deputizing heroes as law enforcement officers of the state. With the passage of the law, the population of heroes in Solace boomed.

By the 1990s, the populace and a majority of government officials had become concerned that, due to the numbers of super powered heroes and villains calling Solace home, the government may not be in total control of the country. Though there were some powerful heroes that were acting agents of the state, they were still not in the state's employ.

In 1992, Solace commissioned its scientific community to come up with an answer, to create a state sponsored hero that would be totally loyal to the government, country, and people of Solace. Their task was a daunting one, as they had to create a hero that would be more powerful than any hero or villain currently residing in Solace. When every experiment failed to create a more powerful being, the scientists turned to alien scientists for aid.

An alien scientist by the name of Kozmoz created a serum based on the distilled testosterone of the Aku'dai, a race of titans inhabiting the moon of a gas giant. The serum was to be injected into a worthy and trained candidate, as a super steroid. The testing began, but the initial results were disastrous. Every human injected with the serum did, in fact, become incredibly powerful, but they also went insane with uncontrollable rage and aggression. Fortunately for the scientists, the subjects bodies literally tore themselves to pieces due to the immense power. The scientist began to doubt that any human subject could withstand the power of the serum, until they heard of a man named Haans Haffinkeffler.

Haans agreed to undergo the intensive physical and mental testing, readying him for the serum. Part of his conditioning was mental reprogramming, instilling in his mind his prime directives and loyalties to Solace. When he was ready, he was given the serum. Haans' body proved to be capable, if just barely, of adapting to and accepting the serum. An unexpected side effect of his body's coping mechanism came in the form of two distinct personalities. Haans developed the alter ego of The Keeper, a way to switch the power on and off in order to keep his body from tearing itself apart.

Though The Keeper obeyed his directives and was fiercely loyal to Solace, the tremendous power of the alien testosterone raging through his veins caused him to pursue his directives with extreme prejudice. He quickly became single minded about capturing every villain who dared to show their face in Solace, no matter the consequences. Despite his aggressive tendendcies, or perhaps because of them, The Keeper became a terror for villains and even heroes who occasionally stepped over the line.

Since his introduction in 1996, The Keeper has never been defeated in combat. The world over, he has become a symbol of Solace's rise to a world Super Power.
