DESCRIPTION:  Dr. Spencer Spalding was a bright and exceptionally gifted med student when he was told that he had melanoma. Undeterred, he persisted in his requests to meet his idol, Dr. Longoria, who was, at the time, frantically searching for the cure to his disease, which Longoria’s wife also had.

The two developed a bond, as father and son, and made some of the most incredible medical discoveries of the century. Sadly, Dr. Longoria had insisted on performing an experimental treatment on himself before Spalding thought the treatment was ready. The results were disastrous, and Longoria fled into obscurity.

Spalding continued the work, and believed he had discovered the cure to melanoma. Using an ultra-violet enhanced form of chemo-radiation, and billions of nano-photoelectric cells injected within him, he believed that the photocells would act as a kind of super-charged white blood cell, which would eradicate the cancer.

The treatment worked. It had cured him of the cancer. But within days, he discovered that he was becoming something more than what he was before. The photocells in his body became hyper-sensitive to sunlight, and gave him incredible powers.

Fearing that others may use his research and methods to create an army of super powered beings, he destroyed all evidence of the procedure. He kept his identity a secret, and took on the persona of Spectrum, in order to use his powers for the benefit of mankind.

New to being a superhero, he moved to Solace, which seemed to him at least, to be the center of superhero/villain activity, to start his new life.

Spenser is 5'10″ tall and weighs 185 pounds. Well toned. He is 32 years old, with short, light brown hair and blue eyes. As Spectrum, he wears a white and yellow body suit with blue piping and trim, and a cape that goes to the backs of his knees. He has a half-shell helmet that covers his eyes and the top of his head.
