Background:

Warren Thatcher is the son of two super-powered parents; however, he was born without powers.  Both his mother and father had hoped to create a super-child in order to take their place and were sad and disappointed by what had happened.  To make matters worse, it seemed that his parents would not be able to ever try for another child as his mother was hurt while giving birth to him.  Over time, Warren could tell that his father blamed him for this and his mother was disappointed with herself over it as well.  Both of his parents still loved him and raised him well, but Warren always felt like a failure in their eyes.  It was when he finally reached college that he began to formulate a plan to finally gain the acceptance he so desperately wanted.  Using his rudimentary knowledge of medicine and the occult, he create a spell that he was sure would bring him powers – but at the cost of a human life.  Thatcher searched the derelict areas of Solace City, looking for someone that no one would ever miss, and upon finding him, sacrificed him to the gods in exchange for dark and deadly powers.  Within moments, Warren felt the power coursing through him and knew his spell had worked.  Disposing of the body ten miles off the coast of Solace City, he returned to his family to tell them the good news of his sudden spark of power.  The depth of love and pride he felt from his mother and father was all he needed to keep him on this new path of becoming a superhero.  Now with his father’s old costume and his mother’s blessing, Nightmage strives to be the hero his parents always wanted while trying to keep the black secret of his powers stuffed way down deep in his heart.
