DESCRIPTION:  The last of an army of sentient robotic weapons created during a long and destructive war between two extinct civilizations. In the final hours of the war, S.C.I.O.N. was among the thousands of weapons caught in the blast of an exploding planet. He was propelled through space, and after a thousand years, he crashed into the sea off the northern coast of Alaska. The nuclear submarine, USS Phantom Deep, discovered the disabled robot.

In secret, the US Military raised it and took it to a secure location, where the most brilliant scientists in the military were brought to study it. During their studies, they discovered that S.C.I.O.N. (what the scientists had taken to calling it) was powered by an advanced form of cold fission. Unable to restart the fission system on their own, they recruited the help of alien scientists.

Though S.C.I.O.N.’s cold fission power generator had been restarted, it remained motionless. Further research and speculation surmised that the time spent without a power supply had degraded whatever programming it had been designed with.

S.C.I.O.N. was reprogrammed with the Prime Directive of completing objectives, without question or compromise. His objectives are ordered by a top secret panel of US Government and Military officials by committee, so that no one person would be able to control such a powerful machine.
