DESCRIPTION: Ikaika Kaimana got his name by being born during the night of the worst typhoon in Solace’s history. His name means ‘strong powerful seas.’ Ikaika’s life was one of fate. He was raised to be a mighty chief of one of Solace’s largest native tribes. Exceptionally gifted, intelligent, and strong, he seemed to be more than capable of fulfilling his destiny. However, on his eighteenth birthday after he was crowned chief, he declared that he would be leaving the village. He desired more for his tribe than he could accomplish by remaining secluded in the jungles of the islands. He desired to go to the City, where he would press for more rights and protections from the government. Ikaika was a passionate supporter of wildlife and habitat conservation, and he felt that Solace was not doing enough to protect the beauty of the islands. Though disappointed at his departure, the villagers accepted his decision, and supported him in his efforts to improve the quality of life for the natives of Solace.
Ikaika traveled to Solace City, and began contacting members of the Solace government. As a native, he was immediately given great access to high ranking members of the government. Few politicians were willing to have their names associated with denying native rights. Several prominent politicians began working with him on bills that would ensure more rights for natives. One politician in particular, took an exceeding interest in Ikaika. Behind closed doors, he made offers of an incredible nature, in exchange for Ikaika’s cooperation in some rather secret tests.
Ikaika unwittingly became part of Solace’s experiments to create the world’s ultimate hero. The politician who tricked him was secretly seeding his own run at the office of Prime Minister. He was confident that if he were to create Solace’s hero, especially a native hero, it would be enough to usher him straight into office.
Ikaika underwent rigorous physical and mental training to prepare him for an injection of a serum based on alien testosterone. He had not been told that all of the other subjects before him had been torn to pieces by the power injected into them.
Ikaika was the first subject to survive the injection, but there were hideous side effects. A layer of bone grew on top of his skin, giving him a horrific skeletal appearance. The scientists declared the side effects an aberration, yet maintained that the subject had been a resounding success. He had retained most of his reason and mental capacity, and scans showed that his higher brain functions were still in tact. His body had developed the skeletal skin as a way to contain the power without tearing itself apart. The measure of his aggression had yet to be determined, as the scientists were hesitant to wake him too early, as they had the last subject. The results of that folly had taken weeks to repair.
The politician who had tricked Ikaika into the test was abjectly horrified by the prospects of this aberration ever being made public. His career would be summarily ended, he would certainly face a prison term, and the project to create Solace’s hero would be shut down. The failure had to be covered up.
The aberration was kept in stasis, and loaded onto a plane in the dark hours of the night. Ikaika’s mutated body was dropped over the center of Antarctica, and that was considered the end of the matter. The scientists and politicians underestimated the power of what they had created.
Ikaika awoke weeks later, and burst from his icy tomb. His memories were a jumble, but he vaguely remembered who he once was, where he came from, and his passion for saving all that he found beautiful in the world. He was also well aware of what he had become. He was a monstrosity, a hideous Aberration of a man.
The rage built within him, rage at those who did this to him, those who abused their power, those who raped and violated the world of all that made it wondrous. He turned his power against those who would do harm to the world he wanted to protect. The madness and rage blurred the distinction between right and wrong, and he began to view nearly all humans as the enemy.
He managed to escape Antarctica, reaching the southern tip of Argentina. From there, he began his mission to eliminate all those who would defile the Earth. Legends and myths quickly spread across South America, about the Aberration that stalked the wilds, mauling and slaying any who trespassed into the wilderness. A handful of scientists, photographers, and conservationists reported being approached by a hideous skeletal beast, that allowed them to live once they were deemed harmless.
The world over, in all of the wild places left on the planet, rumors of the Aberration are whispered among those who dare venture into untamed lands.
Ikaika has found some measure of comfort and peace, an antidote for the rage that burns within him, by being among the wildlife in the undeveloped places of the world. Despite his hideous appearance, animals are drawn to him, and he protects them by visiting violence and death upon any who would dare do them harm. Still, he awaits the day that he can avenge himself upon the city of Solace. Indeed, the only thing that stops him from entering Solace, or any other city, is the fact that many innocent animals would die in the utter devestation he would unleash.
Aberration is covered by a thick skeletal exterior, resembling a suit of armor made of pale bone. Under the bone, he retains the basic anatomy of a human, with flesh, muscle, organs, and an internal skeleton.
Portions of the endoskeleton can be flared out like wings, enabling him to glide up to eight miles starting from low altitudes, or around 100 miles if he uses his powers to jump into higher altitudes.
Without using his powers of growth, he stands just short of seven feet tall, and weighs 400 pounds. At full growth, he stands 150 feet tall and weighs 900 tons. He rarely grows to full size as the consequences are massive destruction of the natural environment around him.
