The Buzz: Mirror’s Edge
I have heard of this game for a while and honestly wasn't very excited about it. I thought the graphics looked bland, gameplay too simple, and overall not very exciting. Well, they released a demo for Mirror's Edge on the 360 yesterday and after I played it I can honestly say that this is one of the most fun games I have played and I can't wait for it.
The graphics are simple and the color mostly white and grey, but that actually makes for a really interesting gameplay element, because red objects point out a possible path for you to take. So after playing it, they graphics are really quite beautiful and the motion is so smooth, it really feels like you are doing it.
The gameplay is amazing and it is actually really fun. I found myself trying it over and over just to make it one smooth continuous motion, maybe that's a little OCD, but it was fun
. It has that Prince of Persia feel to it, where you are jumping up ledges and running along walls, but does it so much better and feels more fluid. I think it may be due to the first person perspective and how you only see your arms and legs. I also like how it handles confrontation. Usually most games have you do an puzzle/acrobatic section, then a fight section, well in Mirror's Edge when you encounter a confrontation you have to figure out how to use the acrobatics to escape. If you are faced with an opponent you can't pass, your character deftly disarms them and disposes of the weapon. It is really cool and lots of fun.
So if you have a moment give the demo a try, it is quite amazing. Click below to see a video.
Demonweb Preview and BIG NEWS for D&D Minis!!!
OK, let's just get into the big news first then we can look at the previewed minis. After the upcoming Demonweb set, the D&D minis will no longer be (completely) randomized and will come in two flavors; Hero packs and Monster packs. There will be six D&D Heroes packs with 3 visible figures each, 2 males and 1 female. Each figure will also come with a unique power card featuring a brand new class power.
The first D&D Monsters set called Monster Manual: Dangerous Delves will release as a 40 figure set. Each package will contain 5 figures, 1 visible, 1 rare, 1 uncommon, and 2 common.
Now here's the downside, in my opinion, the price is a little high ($10.99 for Heroes and $14.99 for Monsters) and the stores will have too many options to stock. So instead of having 1 SKU for a random D&D pack, you will have 6 SKUs for each hero pack and then another SKU for each monster pack depending on which mini is visible. This seems like a downside for game stores, at least, which in turn is bad for the players because they won't have access to all the packs. So what is the most logical solution, shop online, and that only means less business for the actual stores.
I don't know how I feel about it exactly. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
Oh yeah, the two new previews are for a pair of Ogres. The Ogre Pulverizer and the Brutal Ogre Warhulk. I really like these two guys, they look both mean and dumb, which can be a bad combination.
