Thanks! Although now I feel rather silly for never looking it up in the dictionary. You learn something new every day.

A cenobite is a member of a religious order living in a convent or community. Its a Middle English word drived via Late Latin "coenobīta" (from "coenobium" = "convent"), from Greek "koinobion" (from "koinobios" = "living in community"). As you can see, the Githzerai Cenobite is wearing a cowl (also from Late Latin "cuculla" = "hood") which is the formal garment for those in monastic life.

What is a Cenobite in D & D? I only ask because that's the name of the main antagonists in Clive Barker's "The Hellbound Heart" which is one of my favorite books.
