October Video Game Releases

The Fall video game extravaganza has begun and here are some of my picks for this month’s interesting video game releases. What games are you looking forward to?

  • Dead Space – Xbox 360 – Oct 14, 2008
This game reminds me a lot of Bioshock, except in space.  I really enjoy the FPS that have a creepy atmosphere. Checkout the preview video below.
  • Fable II – XBox 360 – Oct 21, 2008
I was never able to play the first game, but I enjoyed the idea of creating a character that evolves with the decisions you make in your “life”.  I may rent this before buying.
  • Little Big Planet – PS3 – Oct 21, 2008
This game looks like a complete blast to play as well as to flex your creative muscle to create your own levels.  Unfortunately, the games looks most fun played with other players and I don’t feel like spending $50 for a second controller.  This game has lots of hype behind it, but I can help but feel that after a while it will get old, after all it is basically a platformer with cutesy characters. I hope I’m wrong but that’s my gut feeling.
  • Fallout 3 – XBox 360 – Oct 28, 2008
I absolutely loved Oblivion and this is basically Oblivion with guns set in the Fallout world. I never could get into the turn based Fallout 2, although I remember my cousin rated the best game ever, so I am even more excited that it has taken a change into real-time shooter-esque gameplay.

  1. Comic writer Warren Ellis (Stormwatch, Planetary, Fell) wrote most of the story for Dead Space. That alone is worth picking up the game in my opinion. Anthony Johnston (who wrote the dialogue for the game) and Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Hatter M, Fell) also did a comic series based on the game that is out now.
